Dear compañeras and compañeros from the Wixárika and Tepehuana/Tepecana community of San Lorenzo de Azqueltan,
Sexta Grietas del Norte sends you this message of solidarity and congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the consolidation of the Autonomous Community of San Loreno de Azqueltán. Since that time, The Wixárika and Tepehuana Autonomous Community of San Lorenzo de Azqueltán participates in the National Indigenous Congress network aligned with the Zapatistas and the principles of governance from below, collective work, defense of land and territory, and ceremony. We share these principles and support your struggle.
We know of the repression you suffer in the efforts to defend your territory, and the sacred lands that you have lived in and cultivated for centuries are under attack from capitalists who want to exploit the land for profit, with no understanding or respect for Mother Earth. Our hearts are with you. We also recognize that the government at all levels neglects to protect your community or to intervene against the thieves and criminals who are trying to take the land away.
We commend you on your successes in preserving your struggle for autonomy despite all the repression. In particular, congratulations on the recuperation of an additional 58 hectares of your ancestral lands.
Several compas from our network were able to attend your ceremonies this year, and we look forward to their reports and to continuing this relationship in the future.
