CNI-CIG communique on the passing of our compañero Oscar Chávez

May 2, 2020

To the nations of the world
To the media

The peoples, nations, tribes, and original barrios who make up the National Indigenous Congress-Indigenous Governing Council, we are deeply saddened by the passing of the our brother and compañero Oscar Chavez, singer and composer who had eyes, ears, and a hand for the peoples who struggle, who resist with the dreams he took up as his own.

We salute his life of solidarity, in which he walked with the peoples who struggle and organize throughout the entire country, with his art that inspires freedom and his persistence, he made us, the peoples who make up the CNI-CIG, feel strengthened and with the certainty that we don’t walk alone. We salute his dreams that dare to imagine justice and make it both a message and music that will continue awakening consciousness throughout the world.

We respectfully send a fraternal embrace to the family and friends of our compañero, who we will keep in our collective heart.

Sincerely,

May 2020
